Will writing offers
Alzheimer’s Research UK has partnered with the National Free Wills Network and The Goodwill Partnership to make making or updating a Will as simple and inexpensive as possible for supporters.
The Goodwill Partnership offers a home visit service for a fixed discounted price. Alternatively, you can write a simple or mirror Will for free with a local solicitor through the National Free Wills Network.
There is no obligation to include a gift to Alzheimer’s Research UK if you choose to take up one of these offers. If you do choose to leave a gift, we would be very grateful. A gift in your Will is a gift to the future, accelerating tomorrow’s vital breakthroughs to protect our children, grandchildren and future generations from the heartbreak of dementia.
The Goodwill Partnership
We know that for many of our supporters, getting out to visit a solicitors office can be difficult or a little daunting. That’s why we’ve teamed up with The Goodwill Partnership, who offer a home-visit Will writing service. Through this service, a trained counsellor will visit you at home at a time that suits you – daytime, evenings and weekends – to take your Will instructions. They will pass your instructions on to a panel of solicitors who will write your Will. In the rare case that there are any issues with the instructions, the solicitor will contact you directly. The Will is then sent to you, directly from the solicitor, for signing and witnessing.
A single will through the Goodwill Partnership costs £98+VAT. This price is fixed, no matter how detailed your Will is.
To book an appointment, you can call The Goodwill Partnership on 0844 669 4148 or visit their website www.thegoodwillpartnership.co.uk/aruk
The National Free Wills Network
Having a Will is incredibly important, and we know that many people can be put off by the cost, which is why we’ve partnered with the National Free Wills Network. Through this partnership, anyone aged 55 or over can make a Will for free. Simply fill in this form, and we will pass your details on to the Network, who will contact you with a list of local participating solicitors. If you and your partner would like to make Mirror Wills, only one of you needs to fill in the form.
The offer covers simple single or mirror Wills. A simple Will is usually defined as having a small number of straightforward bequests. Factors such as overseas property, inheritance tax planning or the creation of trusts will generally mean a Will would not be classed as simple.
If the person making the Will has dementia, this may also affect whether they can make a simple Will as the solicitor will need to judge their capacity. This can sometimes cost more, for instance if the solicitor needs to get a letter from their doctor. If you are unsure if your Will would be covered by the offer, ask the solicitor when you call to make your appointment and they will advise you. If it is not simple, they may offer a discount equivalent to the cost of a simple Will.
