Talks and Q&A with Prof Eef Hogervorst and Dr Eric Hill from our Midlands Research Network.
This session focused on brain health, with talks covering how different factors can impact the risk of developing dementia, and how brain cells are affected.
Prof Eef Hogervorst is Professor of Psychology based at Loughborough University. In her work, she has studied risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease and age-related cognitive decline, and developed new diagnostic memory and thinking tests. Prof Hogervorst will be discussing studies that show that what is good for the heart is good for the brain, and particular things people can do to look after their brain health.
Dr Eric Hill is a Senior Lecturer at Aston University, where he leads a group studying the biology of dementia. His team use cutting edge stem cell technology to grow mini brains in a dish, from which they gain insight into changes to brain cells in dementia. Dr Hill will share his work exploring how different factors come together to cause changes to brain cells, and how this can lead to Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
