Talks, lab demonstrations and Q&A with Dr Bea Gomez Perez-Nievas, Jodi Parslow, Paula Beltran and Louisa Johnson from our Kings College London Research Network.
This session featured footage from behind the scenes in the dementia research labs at Kings College London. The researchers talked about the progress made in understanding Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, and showcased the range of experiments and techniques that they use to study dementia.
Speakers

Jodi Parslow is a PhD student at King’s College London, where she is researching immune cells in the brain and how they contribute to brain changes in dementia. She will show us some different techniques researchers use in the lab, such as growing cells in a dish and methods to measure changes in molecules and proteins.

Dr Bea Gomez Perez-Nievas is a Research Fellow at King’s College London, where she studies the changes in brain biology that happen in Alzheimer’s and other dementias. She will talk about the advances in our understanding that have come from research into what is happening in the brain in dementia.

Paula Beltran is a PhD student at King’s College London, studying how signals sent from immune cells in the brain can lead to damage in Alzheimer’s disease. She will show us how she uses donated human brain tissue in her experiments, and talk about the valuable insights this research can give us.

Louisa Johnson is a PhD student at King’s College London, researching how communication points between nerve cells are disrupted in Alzheimer’s disease. She will demonstrate how she uses microscopes to capture pictures of brain cells, and discuss what scientists learn from these images.
