Fundraising and events

Without you, there would be no Alzheimer’s Research UK. Together, we really can make breakthroughs possible.

Your fundraising can change the future. Dementia shatters lives and leaves millions heartbroken. But every pound you raise brings us closer to a cure for the diseases that cause the condition.

Leave a gift in your Will

Gifts in Wills currently make 1 in 3 of our vital research projects possible. Your gift can accelerate tomorrow’s vital breakthroughs to protect your children, grandchildren and future generations from the heartbreak and fear of dementia.

Supporting long-term research is our best hope of creating a world free from dementia. Alzheimer’s Research UK’s singular focus on research means that every gift, large or small, is used to find out more about the causes, preventions, and ultimately find a cure for dementia.

We appreciate that family and loved ones come first. After they are taken care of, we would be extremely grateful if you would consider including a gift to Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Recycle your used ink & toner cartridges

Did you know you can fund vital dementia research and help the environment at the same time?

Ink and toner recycling (ITR) specialise in the management and recycling of used printer cartridges.

Simply use a box to store used printer cartridges and once full, contact your account manager to organise a free collection from your office.

Depending on their condition, ITR will either recycle any unusable cartridges or reuse and resell them, donating the market value to Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Let's see what you've been doing to make breakthroughs possible.

Here's what you've done so far…

Think Brain Health Check-in

Did you know that just as we can look after other parts of our health, we can take steps to keep our brains healthy and help reduce the risk of dementia later in life? But many of us take our brains for granted. That’s why Alzheimer’s Research UK launched the Think Brain Health campaign in January 2023. It’s all about celebrating our incredible brains and protecting everything they do for us.
Want to give your brain some love? Take the quick brain health Check-in to learn more about your brain healthy habits and find simple ways to help reduce your risk of developing dementia.

lecanemab Update

On Friday 6 January 2023, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it has granted a licence for the new drug, lecanemab, to be prescribed for people with early Alzheimer’s in the US. You can read more about lecanemab on our website

This is an important milestone for dementia research, but there is still some way to go before the drug is available to people in the UK. This period of uncertainty, as we wait for a UK decision, could be difficult for individuals with Alzheimer’s and their loved ones.

We’ve written to the lecanemab’s manufacturer, Eisai, calling on them to work with the UK government, the UK’s own medicines regulator (the MHRA) and the NHS to ensure an evidence-based decision on lecanemab’s safety and efficacy can be made as quickly as possible.

Thank you

Thank you for your generous support in 2022. We really do appreciate everything that you do for Alzheimer’s Research UK!

Lecanemab Announcement

In September 2022 Eisai announced that their drug, lecanemab, showed small but clear benefits for people with early Alzheimer’s in a rigorous, well-conducted phase 3 trial.

Gifts in Wills Awareness Month

In February 2022 we focussed on the importance of leaving a gift in your will. Gifts in Wills currently make 1 in 3 of our vital research projects possible. A charitable gift in your will can accelerate tomorrow’s vital breakthroughs to protect your children, grandchildren and future generations from the heartbreak and fear of dementia.

Thank you to everybody who participated.

Thank you for 2021

Thank you for all your support in 2021. We really appreciate everything that you do for Alzheimer’s Research UK!

Last hour of Pay Campaign

To mark the close of the 2021, we asked colleagues at Ricoh to consider donating their last hour of pay for 2021.

Brand Campaign 2021

Our incredible brains are the smartest thing in the universe. Responsible for all we’ve ever created, felt or dreamt. So, it’s no surprise that our brains will help us overcome deadly brain diseases, like Alzheimer’s. In December Convex shared our new brand film, featuring Shobna Gulati, to raise awareness, shine the light on dementia research and to help #MakeBreakthroughsPossible

Aducanumab Update 2021

In December 2021 regulators recommended that the Alzheimer’s drug aducanumab should not be approved for use in the EU. We know that this decision will be hugely disappointing for people affected by Alzheimer’s in the EU. We have waited far too long for new treatments for the disease. But it’s vital that regulators judge that any new treatment is both safe and effective. What people with Alzheimer’s need is a medicine that improves their lives, but the decision regulators made reflects a lack of clear evidence that aducanumab can do this. Our Chief Executive, Hilary Evans, talks more about the announcement in this video, and you can find more detail on our blog.

Thames Bridges Trek 2021

In September 2021, the Ricoh team took in all the sights of the city on the Thames Bridges Trek; walking 25km and zig-zagging over 16 bridges. The determined team of 16 raised over £4k for Alzheimer’s Research UK. Well done walkers!

Step Challenge

In March 2021, Ricoh Europe colleagues took part in a challenge to see who could walk, run or cycle the most steps/miles. Congratulations to Yuuki Maruyama who won the challenge by completing 1,230 miles! This activity raised an amazing £15k.

The Pandemic arrives

In Spring 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic hit. Ricoh continued to support Alzheimer’s Research UK through one of the toughest periods in the charity’s history thanks to various fundraising events such as Brave the Shave and the Big Virtual Quiz.

Pro Bono

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Ricoh continued to support the charity with a number of pro bono requests. To date, Ricoh have supported over £300k projects through Pro Bono support.

Dementia Uncovered Chapter 2

In November 2019, Ricoh teamed up with Alzheimer’s Research UK to lift the lid on dementia with a powerful awareness campaign highlighting the many physical diseases that cause the condition. The campaign, a series of hard-hitting films, highlights the experiences of four people living with different forms of dementia, as well as the scientists striving to bring about new treatments.

Broadgate Tower Charity Abseil

Sometimes we all do something that surprises even ourselves, the Broadgate Tower abseil is just that.In September 2019, Ricoh colleagues took on the challenge to descend one of the tallest buildings in London (540ft high and a stand-in for a Shanghai skyscraper in the 2012 James Bond film, Skyfall) while raising money for Alzheimer’s Research UK. A whooping £17,172 was raised!

Change to Ricoh imagine.change. Challenge Football Trophy

This is an annual programme to bring employees together to celebrate teamwork, winning spirit and football using the RICOH Way. In September 2019, 23 teams made up of 30 nationalities and over 480 employees across Ricoh EMEA came together in Salou, Spain to see who would be crowned the ultimate football champions. The team raised over £8,000 (from the goals scored, crossbar challenge, contributions and on-site printing).

Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge:

In 2019, David Mills, Ricoh Europe, CEO and 47 fellow walkers, including senior leaders from across Ricoh and their family members took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to mark the second anniversary of Ricoh’s pan-European partnership with Alzheimer’s Research. The 38.6km route took the team up the peaks of Whernside, Pen-y-ghent and Ingleborough, with the whole trek involving 1,585m of ascent across the glorious Yorkshire landscape. Over £30,000 was raised!

Garment Printer

This wonderful piece of technology allows the charity to print on garments for many sporting activities to give an above and beyond service to their supporters!

Pennine Way

David Mills, CEO, Ricoh Europe, laced up his boots and braved the 268 mile Pennine Way challenge for two weeks in August 2018. He raised over £31,000, an inspiration to us all!

Dementia Uncovered Chapter 1

In June 2018, we proposed to create a co-branded short film, delivering key messages around dementia in a creative and sharable way. Illustrating the physically destructive nature of the disease, and showcase Ricoh Europe’s commitment both to the issue and to innovative technology, by using 3D printing techniques to recreate a brain damaged by Alzheimer’s, and a healthy brain of the same age.

Printed Memories

In June 2018, Ricoh launched an innovative digital postcard tool to help those affected by dementia, most commonly caused by Alzheimer’s disease, stay connected through personalised images. The tool, which makes use of Ricoh’s proprietary technology and production workflow expertise, sits at the heart of the company’s Printed Memories programme in partnership with Alzheimer’s Research, Europe’s leading dementia research charity.

Engagement and Awareness Events

In 2017, to celebrate the start of the partnership, Alzheimer’s Research UK, presented at monthly lunch and learns at the Ricoh Offices throughout the year. Colleagues attended to interact and learn more from a range of topics from Alzheimer’s and Dementia Facts and Stats, Reducing your risk, Busting dementia myths to Treatment and cures and Research projects.
