Members of staff at the Greenock Mortgage Centre of the Royal Bank of Scotland have raised an incredible sum of more than £15,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK. They raised the funds throughout 2016 with a range of activities, including regular casual dress days, tombolas, bingo sessions and cake sales.

The staff, who are all from the mortgage operations area within the Centre, put forward potential charity partners at the beginning of the year and Alzheimer’s Research UK was chosen by a vote. Many of the staff have family members affected by dementia and were very passionate about the cause.

On top of their fundraising efforts, the 400-strong team also helped out at local care homes doing gardening work. These included Newark Care Home and Marchmont House in Port Glasgow, and Campbell Snowdon House near Bridge of Weir. They also made up hampers for local care homes at Christmas.

Lisa Cameron, Operations Support Team Manager at RBS Greenock, said:

“As a Centre, we have worked very hard in raising over £15,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK, and the staff have all been passionate and fully engaged in not just our fundraising activities but also the community investment projects we have done.

“This charity is close to the hearts of a lot of people in our Centre and we hope we have helped make a difference to families impacted by dementia.”

Alzheimer’s Research UK powers studies into dementia research at top universities across the UK, focusing on prevention, diagnosis and developing much-needed treatments. There is currently no cure for dementia, or even anything to stop or slow its progress.

April Davidson, Regional Fundraising Officer for Scotland at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said:

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at the Greenock Centre for their support. There are around 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK, and this number is expected to rise to 1 million by 2025.

“The funds that the RBS staff have raised will help us to continue our pioneering dementia research, so that one day the world can be free from the heartbreak of dementia.”
