Staff at executive search firm Odgers Berndtson have kick-started a vital fundraising partnership with Alzheimer’s Research UK, the UK’s leading dementia research charity.

Employees from the company’s UK offices launched the two-year partnership on Tuesday 9 May, after staff voted to select Alzheimer’s Research UK as their chosen charity.

Over 850,000 people are currently living with dementia in the UK. Caused by brain diseases, most commonly Alzheimer’s, early symptoms of dementia can include memory loss, problems with language and changes in personality. Symptoms worsen over time as damage to the brain becomes more widespread, and in the later stages people may be unable to talk, walk or even swallow. Currently there are no treatments able to stop or slow the underlying diseases, but together, Alzheimer’s Research UK and Odgers Berndtson are working to change this.

Over the next two years, Odgers Berndtson staff will work to raise vital funds for innovative research into new treatments, preventions and improved diagnosis for dementia – with a packed calendar of activities including sports days, cycling challenges, and a pub quiz on the cards. The partnership will also help raise crucial awareness about dementia, helping more people to understand that the condition is not a natural part of ageing.

Petrina Jackson, Partner and Head of Research at Odgers Berndtson said:

“At Odgers Berndtson we take both our work and our social responsibility extremely seriously. We are very keen on supporting and raising money for charities and change every two years. This year staff voted for Alzheimer’s Research UK.  We are very excited to have the opportunity to be able to support such an important and underfunded area. Over the next two years our staff will be taking part in events up and down the country such as sporting events (including a sports day), baking competitions, pub quizzes, yoga, gin tasting and various volunteering opportunities to help raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK.  We are all excited and delighted to be able to support them.”

Vicky Lake, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: “We’re thrilled to have been selected as Odgers Berndtson’s new charity partner, and we couldn’t be more grateful for this support. The money raised through the partnership will be able to help fund essential resources and equipment for our scientists, taking us closer to the next breakthrough.

“With 850,000 people across the UK currently living with dementia, we urgently need better ways to treat, prevent and diagnose the condition. We rely on the support of the public to be able to fund our pioneering research, and it’s thanks to the backing of companies like Odgers Berndtson that we’re able to carry out our vital work.”
