NEC Group to embark on 2018 fundraising mission for Alzheimer’s Research UK

The NEC Group has joined the fightback against dementia, pledging to raise thousands for the UK’s largest dementia research charity throughout 2018. Employees at the Group voted for Alzheimer’s Research UK to become their charity of the year, with the partnership officially launching this month.
The Group – which operates the NEC, ICC, Genting Arena, Arena Birmingham and the Vox venues, plus supporting businesses The Ticket Factory, Amadeus and Amplify – will be organising a range of fundraising activities until the end of December.
With the aim of engaging employees and visitors, this will include everything from bucket collections, charity quizzes and seasonal activities, to sponsored cycling and skydiving challenges.
As well as fundraising, the Group, based in Birmingham, will also help to raise much-needed awareness of dementia and Alzheimer’s Research UK. There are currently 11,000 people living with dementia in Birmingham and 850,000 across the UK. Despite this, there are currently no treatments that slow or stop the underlying diseases that cause dementia, with the most common being Alzheimer’s disease.
The NEC Group’s support will be helping Alzheimer’s Research UK to achieve its mission of bringing about the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025.
