Mace’s ‘incredible’ partnership with Alzheimer’s Research UK raises over £90k

Mace’s determined efforts to defeat dementia have raised over £90,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK – with part of the funds being used to improve understanding of the condition in black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.
Employees at the international consultancy and construction company have been fundraising for the charity over the past 12 months and raising awareness of dementia has been central to the partnership.
Of the money raised by Mace, £25,000 is being used to improve the charity’s online health information, while another £25,000 has been used for Alzheimer’s Research UK’s ‘Translating Dementia’ project. This saw the charity work with black, Asian and minority ethnic communities to explore what dementia means to them, enabling Alzheimer’s Research UK to produce tailored information guides in a range of non-English languages. Thanks to the funding from Mace, the charity was able to produce the pocket-sized booklet – a ‘Quick guide to dementia’ – in Arabic, Bengali, Gujarati, Polish, Punjabi, Urdu, which is expected to reach around 25,000 people.
Throughout the partnership, employees at Mace caught the fever for orange-themed fundraising. They kicked off the partnership with a ‘Go Orange’ day, in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK’s #sharetheorange awareness campaign, which aims to dispel misconceptions surrounding dementia. They also designed their own orange golf balls, with a Mace employee taking one of these on an open water scuba dive in the Red Sea.
The rest of the funds will be used to support Alzheimer’s Research UK in its mission to bring about the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025. There are currently 850,000 people in the UK living with dementia, yet there are currently no treatments or preventions to slow or stop the diseases, like Alzheimer’s, that cause the condition.

There’s been plenty of orange over the last 12 months, along with lots of people getting involved in skydives, three peaks challenges, golf days, obstacle courses and lots more. We also dedicated World Alzheimer’s Day to playing a mobile game, which allowed us to contribute to dementia research while having fun!”
