England Netball partners Jaffa and Gilbert join forces with Alzheimer’s Research UK to #ShareTheOrange with limited edition netball

30 May 2022

On sale today, the netballs will raise funds and awareness for dementia research

The UK’s leading dementia research charity, Alzheimer’s Research UK, is thrilled to receive support from England Netball on the launch of its limited-edition netballs.

To raise funds and awareness for dementia research, the netballs have been given an orange makeover in aid of the charity’s #ShareTheOrange campaign. They are now available to buy and will see a 30% donation made to Alzheimer’s Research UK with each sale.

The netball, which has been designed by Gilbert and Jaffa, aims to help confront misconceptions surrounding dementia, by highlighting that the condition is caused by physical diseases, most commonly Alzheimer’s.

A brain with dementia can weigh around 140g less than a healthy brain, which is about the weight of an orange. Like other physical diseases, research will find a way to treat the diseases which cause dementia and keep people connected to their families, their worlds and themselves for longer.

The England Netball team talk about the link between an orange and dementia, using the new limited-edition netball, in a moving video available to watch here.

Richard Gray CEO at Commercial Gilbert Netball said:

“We are proud to be involved with such an innovative and exciting campaign – especially as we have had personal experience in dealing with Alzheimer’s in our own family for over 10 years now. It was great to team up with Alzheimer’s Research UK, England Netball and Jaffa to create this meaningful orange netball – a real team effort that we hope will generate much-needed funds for dementia research.”

Lucy Squance, Director at Alzheimer’s Research UK, comments:

“We’re delighted to see England Netball and Jaffa come together to support Alzheimer’s Research UK. We hope this orange themed limited-edition netball will inspire people to learn more about dementia, while helping to fund the groundbreaking research that will transform the lives of everyone affected by the condition.

“We’re so grateful to the England Netball team for showing their support.”

Fran Connolly, England Netball CEO added:
“We are delighted to support Jaffa and Gilbert in their partnership with Alzheimer’s Research UK. This limited-edition ball will not only help raise vital funds to further progress research and help find preventions and treatments, but it will also increase awareness of the condition and support people living with dementia.”

The limited-edition netball is on sale for £19.99 and will help to raise funds for life-changing dementia research. To find out more or purchase the netball, visit:
