Two fundraisers from Dundee are preparing for an evening of glamour and glitz next month when they will host a charity ball to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK, the UK’s leading dementia research charity. Friends Paul McFawns and Lisa Small are joining forces to organise the black tie ball on 1 August, with a champagne reception, silent auction and live music in store for guests.
The Alzheimer’s Research UK Charity Ball, which is being hosted at Chamber East in Dundee’s city centre, will see guests entertained by live music from covers and ceilidh band, the Elaine Stewart Band. Tickets cost £20, and those attending will also have the chance to bid in a silent auction ahead of the event, with a host of items up for grabs including a £200 paintball voucher and a voucher towards a meal at Jahangur Restaurant. Entertainer Russell Grant, who is a keen supporter of Alzheimer’s Research UK, has also donated a pair of tickets to his fun-packed Edinburgh Fringe show, Russell Grant: Strictly Edinburgh.
Paul explained his motivation for organising the event:
“My two grans both had dementia, and both died about three years ago within six months of each other. It was awful to go and visit the people that I had known so well and not recognise them. Lisa and I had always wanted to put together a big event, and we really wanted to give back and help families in the same position, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity.
“We have a great night of entertainment lined up and I’m hoping lots of people will join us for the evening. It’s taken a lot of organising, but it should be a spectacular night, and knowing the money we raise will go to support dementia research makes it all worth it.”
Jodie Vaughan, Community Fundraising Manager at Alzheimer’s Research UK said:,br />
“What an amazing event – we couldn’t be more grateful to Paul and Lisa for all their hard work and support. I’m sure everyone attending will have a fantastic time, and every ticket sold is enough to pay for another hour of pioneering research to help bring new treatments for dementia closer.
“There are hundreds of thousands of people across the UK living with dementia today, including nearly 1,500 people with dementia in Dundee alone. Dementia is one of our greatest medical threats, and it’s crucial to keep investing in research that can tackle this challenge. We rely on the support of the public to be able to fund our research, and it’s thanks to people like Paul and Lisa that we’re able to continue our work.”
The Alzheimer’s Research UK Charity Ball takes place at Chamber East in Panmure Street, Dundee at 7.30pm on Friday 1 August. Tickets, priced £20, can be bought by contacting Paul or Lisa through their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/PaulLisaCharityBall or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
