Dementia research and myth busting at this year’s Alzheimer’s Show
Posted on 25th May 2016
Dementia experts from Alzheimer’s Research UK will take to the stage at this year’s Alzheimer’s Show at London Olympia to share the latest news and developments from the charity and the wider world of dementia research.
Following months of exciting announcements and developments in dementia research and major projects, Alzheimer’s Research UK is delighted to announce its return to the Show on June 10 and 11 as the event’s Research Partner.
Speaker Dr Rosa Sancho, Head of Research at Alzheimer’s Research UK, will share the latest updates and findings in research along with major investments the UK’s leading dementia research charity has made to progress research into prevention, treatments and a cure.
Dr Sancho said:
“This is an exciting time for dementia research with considerable investment in the R&D community paving the way for future breakthroughs both nationally and internationally.
“As such I’m looking forward to sharing the latest news surrounding the work Alzheimer’s Research UK is involved in and answering any questions about developments in the field.”
Alzheimer’s Research UK will have a stand (F6) at the event where people can drop in and find out more about the charity and the ground-breaking work it does.
There will also be an opportunity for people to find out more about how to get involved in research, with a presentation in one of the Talks and Topics sessions.
This will include information surrounding a major project Alzheimer’s Research UK has helped to launch, called Sea Hero Quest. It is the world’s first gaming app designed to get a deeper understanding of how people use their navigational abilities to inform further research into the problems people with dementia experience with navigation.
This data, which is the biggest collection of its kind worldwide, will be analysed by the University College London (UCL) in collaboration with the University of East Anglia with the support of Alzheimer’s Research UK and Deutsche Telekom and will contribute to a better understanding of dementia and how the brain works.
Tim Parry, Head of Communications & Brand, will also speak on behalf of Alzheimer’s Research UK at the show and his talk will cover general myth busting surrounding dementia.
“The Alzheimer’s Show has proven itself to be a great opportunity to speak to people with dementia, their carers and families, and the surrounding sector to update on progress in dementia research and our campaigns. We have been encouraged over the last few years of attending this event by the increasing number of services and opportunities available to people affected by dementia to help them cope with the condition and to get involved in research and activities.”
