Alzheimer’s Research UK takes over London bar for Mighty Quiz launch

Posted on 28th March 2017

People gathered in London yesterday evening (Monday 27 March) for the launch of Alzheimer’s Research UK’s The Mighty Quiz.

Among the guests at the exclusive event at BrewDog’s Shoreditch bar was some of the charity’s various partners and supporters, including Facebook, freuds and parkrun. YouTubers Chai Cameron, Niki and Sammy Albon and Jana Vlogs also took part alongside charity supporter and fine art photographer Linda Blacker. Between them, the YouTube stars have amassed over one million subscribers.

The evening was a chance to showcase the charity’s new DIY quiz event, which will officially launch on Thursday 27 April. On and around this day, quizmasters across the nation will unite teams to tackle trivia and crack conundrums in their own Mighty Quiz. In a twist on your average pub contest, The Mighty Quiz combines the traditional with the quirky, thanks to the introduction of challenge rounds. Tinfoil sculpture making, spaghetti and marshmallow tower building and plank-offs are all options for people holding their own quiz night.

Other teams on the night included Rocket, Medialab, Field Day and Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Christian Kimberley-Bowen, from Facebook, said:

“We all had a really great evening, which was made all the better by ending the night victorious! The Mighty Quiz is a fantastic way to raise money for such an important cause. We’re going to be holding our own quiz in our London office for Alzheimer’s Research UK, and I’d encourage others to do the same.”

Linda Blacker said:

“I lost my grandmother to dementia with Lewy bodies a couple of years back, so I know how vitally important it is that people donate to dementia research to help find a cure. The Mighty Quiz is so much fun, and even though we didn’t win, we had a brilliant evening. Everyone should register for a quiz pack and hold their own event.”

Tim Parry, Director of Communications at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said:

“Last night’s launch was fantastic, and showed just how much fun people across the country can have while helping to fight dementia. Huge thanks to everyone who attended and BrewDog for letting us take over their bar.

“It’s not about winning or losing, but about getting your friends, family and colleagues together to help tackle this growing health crisis with a smile on your face. Mighty Quizzes are so easy to organise – just sign up for your free quizmaster pack, pick the rounds and challenges you want to include and get quizzing. The more people who go head to head with quizzes, the sooner we’ll beat dementia once and for all.”
