Cambridgeshire-based charity, Alzheimer’s Research UK, has been recognised as one of the Best Companies to Work for in the East of England.
The charity, with its head office in Great Abington, was placed 49 on the list of 75 organisations, created by Best Companies. This comes just weeks after Alzheimer’s Research UK was named as one of The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work for in the not-for-profit sector.
The accolade recognises organisations that have an engaged workforce. This is measured by an extensive survey, asking employees about different factors including personal development, leadership and the feeling of giving something back.
Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity, dedicated to better understanding, diagnosing, treating and reducing the risk of dementia. Its mission is to bring about the first life-changing treatment for dementia by 2025.
Since the charity was founded in 1992, Alzheimer’s Research UK has funded over £25.5m in research in the East of England, where more than 82,000 people are living with dementia. The charity is currently investing in 26 research projects in the area, including at the University of Cambridge and University of East Anglia, worth nearly £8m.
Ian Wilson, Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Research UK, said:
“It is an honour to be recognised as one of the Best Companies to Work for in the East of England – particularly as we’re lucky to be based in an area celebrated for its innovative and forward-thinking organisations.”
He added:
“Dementia is our greatest medical challenge and one in three people born today will develop dementia in their lifetime, without life-changing preventions and treatments. That’s why it’s vital we have an engaged and driven workforce, who are passionate about finding life-changing treatments for dementia, so we can bring an end to the heartbreak it causes sooner. We’re extremely grateful for the efforts of all of our employees. But none of our life-changing work would be possible without the backing on our fantastic supporters, so we’d like to thank all of them for helping us make breakthroughs possible.”
Jade Rolph, Senior Corporate Partnerships Manager at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said:
“I joined Alzheimer’s Research UK eight years ago because I wanted to do something to change the future after my mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease when she was 48. Eight years on I’m still working with the most engaged, passionate, inspiring and all-round astounding group of colleagues anybody could ask for. I’m really proud to be part of Alzheimer’s Research UK and knowing that the work we’re doing will change lives.”
