"Crossing the finish line and running for my mum made the London Marathon one of the best days of my life."
Fiona Burrell, 2024 team member, has shared her message to you:
Training for the marathon is incredibly challenging, especially at this time of year. The runs get longer, the weather isn’t always on your side, and some days are just harder than others. But I promise you, it’s all worth it.
Crossing the finish line and running for my mum made the London Marathon one of the best days of my life. And I know it will be just as special for you.
Remember to trust your training plan. It’s designed to get you to the start line strong and to the finish line with a smile. It can be easy to compare yourself to
others - whether it’s their pace, their mileage, or their times - but don’t let that distract you. Your marathon journey is yours alone, and you’re doing brilliantly.
Whenever you find yourself struggling, think about your “WHY.” For me, it was my mum, and that thought got me through the toughest moments. I’m sure your own reason will give you the strength you need to keep going.
Before you know it, you’ll be crossing the finish line, medal around your neck, with a huge smile on your face!
Thank you so much for everything you’re doing to support Alzheimer’s Research UK and for a cure.
