Benefits

We know that a new job isn’t just about your first day in the office. We want you to feel part of Alzheimer’s Research UK and our dedication to bringing about life-changing treatments for dementia from the moment you are offered the job. That’s why we provide a comprehensive induction process, helping you to understand the role that each team plays within the charity and how vital you are in making breakthroughs possible in dementia research.

Alzheimer’s Research UK would not be able to achieve its vision or make breakthroughs possible without the talent and dedication of its employees.  It is therefore important to offer a range of benefits which are designed to meet both the organisational and individual needs, are market competitive and designed to attract and retain employees.

Holiday entitlement

Employees receive 25 days holiday per annum, plus the Statutory Public Holidays. For every 3, 6 and 9 years worked, employees will receive 1 additional day’s leave. There is also the option to buy up to 5 additional days holiday per year or carry over 5 days holiday to the following year. This holiday entitlement is pro-rated for new starters and part-time employees.

Healthcare

Employees are offered Private Medical Insurance, a Health Cash Plan, Life Insurance and Income Protection. Our Employee Assistance Programme provides employees and their family members additional support on problems which may be impacting their work/home life, health and wellbeing and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Pension

Subject to the eligibility criteria, employees are enrolled in our pension scheme but can opt out if they so wish. The charity contributes 5% and employees contribute a minimum of 4%.

Cycle to Work scheme

Employees can purchase a commuter bike, clothing and accessories, whilst spreading the cost over a 12-month period and making savings through a tax break.

Family Friendly policies

Our Family Friendly policies have been designed to support employees by offering different types of leave that may be taken. Subject to the eligibility criteria, we also offer enhanced pay.

Sick pay

We offer enhanced Company Sick Pay, where employees receive their normal pay for up to 13 weeks (65 days) of absence through illness in any rolling 12-month period. This is pro-rated for part-time employees.

Learning & Development

My Personal Growth programme has been designed to enable employees to develop their skills, knowledge and behaviours, add value and drive organisational success.

Our location

Granta Park

We are a non-branched charity at an exciting stage of expansion and development. Our busy and dynamic office is based on Granta Park, set on the outskirts of Cambridge, in a modern and vibrant building surrounded by greenspace and wooded areas (perfect for lunchtime walks and picnics!).

With free parking on site, Granta Park is easily accessible by car and operates a car share scheme, used by all companies based on Granta Park. Alternatively, you could make the most of the commuter bus services from Cambridge and Whittlesford Parkway train stations which run regularly during the commuter hours.

A stone’s throw from Granta Park lake is the playing field, the setting for a range of group activities such as Cricket, Rounders, Five-a-side Football and Volleyball which you can either take part in or spectate as you walk around the park at lunch times. There is also an onsite gym with a selection of equipment and exercise classes all accessible throughout the week. Alzheimer’s Research UK also has access to showers within the office building, so if you like to get your exercise by cycling to work, you can do that too!

Just 8 miles from Cambridge

Cambridge, reported by the Independent as being the best place to work in the UK (15 July 2016), brings together the beauty and friendliness of the countryside with the excitement and convenience of a City. Well known for the exquisite architecture of its famous colleges and churches, Cambridge is overflowing with history and culture ready for you to seek out and explore.

The River Cam runs through Cambridge, allowing for one of the most popular attractions of Cambridge – punting! Whether you like the idea of having a go yourself, or if you prefer to watch whilst relaxing in a riverside café or pub, this pastime is a favourite of locals and tourists alike!

Having the benefit of plenty of green open spaces, Cambridge hosts lots of events throughout the year such as music festivals, food festivals and outdoor theatre productions. With those as well as all of the theatres, clubs, cinemas, shopping centres, cafes, gyms, pubs, swimming pools, restaurants (we could go on) and the 45-minute train to London, you’ll never be stuck for something to do.
