Future treatments

Working now to ensure future dementia treatments reach people quickly.

We work with the government, NHS and medicines regulators to plan ahead, ensuring that future treatments will be provided to everyone who would benefit as soon as they become available. Overcoming the potential barriers that could delay the roll-out of new treatments will require researchers, pharmaceutical companies and the NHS to collaborate early in the research process.

We’ve taken the lead in putting this issue on the agenda and working to find solutions, including:

  • Working to understand in more detail the impact a future dementia treatment might have on the NHS, including the cost effectiveness of a new treatment, in our Thinking Differently report.
  • Outlining the potential challenges in our Treatments of Tomorrow report, which has helped bring together regulators and the pharmaceutical industry to think about how we overcome these challenges.
  • Co-leading a coalition of charities with Cancer Research UK to develop potential solutions.
